I subscribe to many (probably way too many) feeds, the largest group being the many soccer blogs that have sprung up. It’s a great way to learn more about what’s going on throughout the world and to establish relationships with folks I wouldn’t have otherwise met. Jarrett at TriSoccerFan and Joe at WeCallItSoccer are great examples.
I’ve also been subscribed to the “blog” that Clint Dempsey set up just before the World Cup began. No longer as I’ve just unsubscribed and deleted all of the earlier posts in my reader. No more pointing to videos or other non-field exploits either.
Why? Because a blog is supposed to be a two-way street, where you reveal your interests and views of the world and if you are fortunate enough to have readers, you learn from them and build on what the community offers. Hey Duecey, how about some feedback on this
Dempsey’s suspension and fine were imposed for violent conduct against Wizards defender Jimmy Conrad. The play occurred in the 57th minute when Dempsey and Conrad jumped for a head ball in midfield and Dempsey’s elbow struck Conrad in the face.
I’m experienced enough to know that soccer is a contact sport. What I’m asking for is a blog that’s not a sales pitch. Instead I get to read comments from posters complaining about how poor Deucey was so maligned on the pitch and to “go easy on Jimmy Conrad” with nary a bit of feedback from Clint or his moderator that implies Clint cares a bit for the damage he’s done. To a jaw and to a teammate of his from the National Team. Remember the outcry when Rooney’s ManU teammate Ronaldo stepped up for his Portugese teammate? Hey EJ, what are your thoughts?
It’s not the first time Duecey has ignored the on-field exploits that don’t match his image of himself. From DuNord on Monday
After breaking the jaw of Kansas City defender Jimmy Conrad with an elbow in a match last Wednesday, New England star Clint Dempsey could find himself in a whole lot of trouble now. In preseason Dempsey got into a nasty fight with teammate Joe Franchino and ended up with a two week suspension. Then a few weeks ago he took a swipe at Chicago defender Gonzalo Seagares, catching him in the eye, and got a two game suspension (reduced to one on appeal). And now this! Conrad will miss at least a month with his mouth wired shut. (Should make for a great column for ESPN Soccernet.) No word yet from the league on if there will be any punishment, but if there is you can bet it won’t be light.
I’ll take the step that’s possible for a small town boy who’s a soccer fan. I’m moving on… Unsubscribed. This post is categorized under Sportsmanship!

What’s up with the MLS calling all of these suspensions on Dempsey and not on others. No suspension was given to the player who broke Dempsey’s jaw. No suspension was given the player in last weeks game that tried to take Dempsey out in the first half (look at the video). No suspension was given to Franchino who started the fight while Dempsey was schedule to go with US team to Gemany for pre games.
