The polls are complete for the Missouri Valley Conference Men’s Soccer programs. Missouri State earned one first place vote (Creighton received six) and finished second in the Coaches Poll. In addition, three Missouri State players were recognized in the Preseason Top 11 picks.

F – Danny May, Jr. Missouri State 8 goals, 19 points, all-MVC First Team

GK – Matt Allen, Jr. Creighton 0.81 GAA, nine shutouts, 15-5-3 record

Danny has started all 37 games since coming to Missouri State from Waubonsie Valley (NW suburb of Chicago) in the Fall of 2004. Paired up front with the MVC Co-MVP, Ryan Anderson (St. Charles West), this offensive firepower has to be the reason for the Bears lofty ranking. As I noted earlier, the defense is solid. Can the Bears provide the quality of service the forwards deserve? And will they win the late Conference games that have bedeviled them the past few years?

Creighton, which finished the 2005 season ranked sixth in the nation with a 15-5-3 record and just one win shy of the College Cup, returns nine players which started at least 14 matches a year ago. The Bluejays captured their record ninth MVC Tournament title and finished second in the regular-season with a 5-2-0 MVC mark.

Bradley lost 13 seniors from last year’s MVC regular-season championship team. But BU (15-6-1) brings back its top two scorers in senior forward Zach Bell (seven goals, 18 points) and junior forward Teddy Anderson (six goals, 16 points), both on last season’s all-MVC team.

And remember, the Bears play this Saturday evening at 7:00 pm at Plaster Stadium on the MSU campus. Coach Leamy likes to see the newcomers in the exhibition season, sometimes leading to results like this. I’ll be there. Will you?
