Jasper & Hercules Into WPSL Final Four

SMSU One More Time The River Cities FC squad won their match against Southern Division champions Tampa Bay Elite to earn a trip to the Final Four of the Women’s Professional Soccer League. The RC FC Ladies will face off against Ajax (CA) on Friday evening in a semifinal match.

Jackie Jasper (pictured above), Missouri State 2009, will start in goal, replacing injured first teamer Meghann Burke. The RC FC defense, which includes starter Kate Hercules, Missouri State 2007, has allowed only six goals this year and will hope to improve on that record.

With the college season beginning August 7th (preseason practice) the ladies will come in well prepared for the rigors of the upcoming Missouri Valley Conference season. girls in dubai

Rock Bridge Names Gates Girls Coach

From a short profile in the June 11th edition of the Columbia Daily Tribune

MEET THE COACH: New Rock Bridge girls soccer coach Kelly Gates has packed a lot of coaching experienced into her 25 years.

Since her senior year at Whitfield School in St. Louis, the soccer standout has been instructing in some way through camps or assistant-coaching positions.

After two years on Marc VanDover’s Rock Bridge staff, the 2004 Westminster graduate believes she’s ready for her first head-coaching gig.

“I really enjoy the girls, and there’s a lot of talent,” Gates said. “I think I’m ready to take over as head coach. It’s something I really enjoy, and it’s where I want to be.”

Gates, who holds Westminster’s all-time record for game-winning goals with nine from 1999-2002, was an assistant with the Blue Jays for two years before coming to Rock Bridge.

She’s currently a graduate student at Missouri, studying exercise physiology. Gates, who has an undergraduate degree in physical education, is a personal trainer at Wilson’s and works part-time at Boone Hospital.

Gates inherits a Rock Bridge team that loses only three seniors from a squad that finished 10-7-6 last season.

“We’ll try some different things and see how they work out and see what the team’s most successful with,” Gates said. “I like to use variety and try different drills in practice.”

Congratulations to the Southwest MO Lightning who took U16 Second Place honors at the recent Show-Me Games in Columbia. The team went 2-0-1 in their bracket, and advanced to the finals over the Independent Puma club on a special PK tie-breaker shoot out. In the finals, the team lost 0-2 to the KC United club. From Coach Bob McDermid

Our first tourament was the Show-Me Games three years ago. That team was pretty much my Ozark Soccer League team with players from 2 other league teams. We won the U14s that year and I thought that might be the first and last tournament for this group but the players encouraged me to keep the group together and we have played 2-3 tourmanemts each fall and spring (except last fall with the players being in high school we could only get one fall tournament in). We have played in the KC Cup, St. Pat’s, Autumn Blast, Salsa and Joplin Tournament as well as other regional tournaments.
