Bilbao on US Men vs Latvia (6pm!)

US – Venezuela recap

The United States showed excellent energy from the opening whistle. I liked the younger line up that the Americans used. Our players really ran at the Venezuelans. We did a good job of using our wide players and their services were brilliant. We switched the point of attack very well throughout the match and created many opportunities from this. The backs played very well as the Venezuelans posed no threat.

US – Latvia Preview

I have no idea what the Latvian side will bring to the match this evening. It will be interesting to see what Bruce has in mind for his starting 11. Will he bring his top 11 in? Will he use a combination of young and old? Will he find enough room on the field for Beasley, Donovan, Convey, and Dempsey? I would love to see it!

I am a big fan of possession and would like to see if we can be composed on the ball and knock it around and not try that penetrating ball until it is on. I constantly tell my boys to keep it until you are positive it will get us that great opportunity on goal. I believe the US can do this with the right group on the field. I will have my kids watch for the possession and forced opportunities that the players create by not being patient.

Hopefully, coaches and players will break down the matches and look for certain tactics, like we have done in the past three world cup tune ups, that will help educate their teams, and make them better players and students of the game.

The final World Cup tune up is this evening folks, 6:00 pm on ESPN2 yet again. Thanks to Coach Alf Bilbao, Drury Panthers and SpringHigh Select. He filed this report from Memphis where his U16 and U18 boys are competing in their final tune up prior to State Cup. Less then two weeks away folks. Have you volunteered yet?

The World Cup begins the same day as the State Cup. Springfield Soccer correspondents will include the coaching staff at Springfield SC as well as Buddy Coulter who will be attending the matches in Germany. Buddy just wrapped up his U10 JB Marine teams Spring Season and will be ready to work with the Glendale Falcons where he is an assistant when he returns.
