The Northwest Arkansas Lightning Soccer Club is requesting $15,000 to help fund the First Annual Clorox Cup, a girls soccer tournament to be held Sept. 16-17 at Sugar Creek Soccer Park.
If funds are granted, their usage will go toward direct mail to teams in Texas, Tennessee, Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas and Little Rock, as well as toward advertisements for the tournament in soccer trade magazines.
The event is expected to become the organization’s largest fundraiser, possibly raising $20,000 annually for the club’s 1,800-plus active members. During its first year, the event is expected to maximize its field capacity of 140 teams — which would bring approximately 2,100 families — or 8,400 visitors — to the community. More than half will stay in hotels, according to the club’s funding request.
