Girls High School State Soccer Rankings

The final rankings prior to the start of the playoffs have been released. There are a few items worth pointing out. St. Joseph’s Academy has finally knocked Incarnate Word out of the top spot, after IWA was first in the previous two polls. Lee’s Summit North has moved up to the fifth spot although I think the biggest news at LSN is their unsportsmanlike behaviour earlier this week when Coach Tim Richardson decided to torch William Chrisman, sending Megan Marlborough to a new single game scoring record. All in the first half, and after beating the 2-13 team by a similar score on April 4th. Class act Coach.

To news of our regional squads, Jefferson City has moved into the #10 spot with Hickman right behind them at #11 on the strength of their recent 2-2 tie against then #5 Ursuline. Ozark Conference squads Rolla and Kickapoo both moved down in the polls, Rolla from 9 to 14 while Kickapoo received 2 votes to keep them on the list.

For the smaller Class 1 squads, St. Dominic’s reclaimed the #1 spot they opened the season with while Trinity dropped from the top to #5. The other significant change is Springfield Catholic’s continued rise in the standings, this time to #9 which puts them one spot in front of rival Timberland at #10. I expect these two teams to meet in the Quarterfinals yet again this year and it should be another significant battle (you’ve seen the video iPod version of last years highlights haven’t you?). Timberland is in second place in the GAC North to #3 Duchense who play in a different district. With 63 goals scored and 18 allowed, the tools are there to go farther.
