Coach Chris Baker of the Drury Lady Panthers has announced the recruiting class for the Fall 2006 season. Newcomers to the program will include defender Emily West of Broken Arrow, OK (Union HS); forward/midfielder Karissa Nedoma and midfielder/defender Paige Puryear from Springfield’s Kickapoo High School; forward/midfielder Christy Stewart from Lake Highlands High School in Dallas; midfielder/defender Caitlin Weins of Columbine High School in Littleton, CO; forward/defender Sarah Owens of Blue Valley Northwest High School in Overland Park, KS; and midfielder Olivia Philippart de Foy of St. Michaels High School in Brussels, Belgium.
Senior defender Laura Adams from Tulsa, Okla., junior defender Chloe Moushey from Madison, Wis., senior forward Roxanne Rassti from Ozark, Mo., and senior forward Jen Simeck from Lincoln, Neb., have been chosen by Baker to serve as captains next season. Rassti led the Panthers in scoring last season with seven goals and 17 points. Adams and Moushey were key members of a back line that helped DU to a 7-8-2 final mark, while Simeck missed the entire season due to a knee injury after starting 16 of 18 games as a junior in 2004.
In other news, Drury also received the NSCAA Team Academic Award for a fifth straight year by compiling a grade point average as a team of 3.0 or better. The Panthers had a 3.4 gpa for the 2004-05 school year.
