The Chiefs defended their home pitch against their local rival this evening, scoring four in the first half to earn the win. Paige Blotter, showing she has recovered from her winter injury layoff, scored the first when she won a physical battle in the box in pushing the ball past the sweeper and goalkeeper in the xxth minute for the eventual game winner. A minute later Jamie Sabel scored on a corner kick from Katie McLain that was placed in the near corner. Jamie made her run to the post and almost beat the ball into the net as her momentum carried her past the keeper. The 3rd goal was a lovely play, with Jackie Sabel settling the ball in the circle outside the box and pushing it into Afton Weimer’s path. Afton’s second touch on her run into the box was to the far post where you can see it eluded the diving keeper. The final goal was another corner kick, with Laura McElroy punching the ball up but not out and Jamie Sabel pounced on the loose ball before a Falcon could clear it for their keeper.
The Falcon’s came close on several attempts, the best opportunity coming while it was still 0-0 and Ashley Meyer’s direct kick from just outside the box rang off of the crossbar. In this case the defense was able to push it across the endline and the ensuing Glendale corner kick was controlled by Kickapoo. The rematch will be May 8th at Cooper.
