On the eve of Springfield home boy Jackie Jewsbury’s birthday (he’s 25 today!) I can’t think of a better gift then to be placed on the bench. Our boy has arrived, and while it disappoints me that I didn’t get to see him ply his trade on the pitch at the Cooper Soccer Complex Wednesday evening, it is also great to recognize what that means for Jackie and his career. He’s too valuable to risk an injury in an exhibition match during the season, especially with World Cup 2006 potentially having a significant impact on the roster mid-season for Kansas City. A road trip to KC for a Wizards game (or several) definitely needs to be added to my agenda in order to get some satisfaction.
To the game, on a beautiful evening in the Ozarks, a large crowd came out to watch some top drawer soccer. Included in the roster that did play Springfield Soccer fan’s saw a gorgeous goal, a blast from outside the box, by recent New Mexico player & NCAA Finalist Lance Watson . Will John has returned to Kansas City, where he played his prep soccer, to torment defenders. Update – did I mention US Men’s National Team pool player Jimmy Conrad 🙂
The crowd came from Joplin to West Plains, from Lebanon and points closer and thousands of miles away. With a professional from Electronic Video Systems taping the game, our local boys should learn plenty from this game. I’m ready for the Fall season to begin! What do you think ladies?
