Bailes Enters Springfield Sports Hall of Fame

Glendale Falcons at Springfield Catholic

On an evening when Scott Bailes was being inducted into the Missouri Springfield Sports Hall of Fame, his second daughter (of three), Tara was putting some icing on the cake for the celebration. Tara’s overtime goal in Springfield Catholics 3-2 win over the Class 2 Glendale Falcons Wednesday came early in overtime and capped a comeback by the Fightin’ Irish from a 0-2 deficit.

The Falcon’s set the tone early in the game when they scored from the starting kickoff, with Lou Opfer scoring from an assist by Lauren Bettlach. Glendale seemingly put the game away when within the first minute of the second half, Opfer scored her second goal of the match, this time on a header from a corner kick, again from Bettlach. There is no quit in the Catholic girls however and it was in the 56th minute that Elle Holtman, Catholic’s indefatigible midfielder, put Anne Prengers free kick into the net over the Glendale offense. Caught in no man’s land, all the Glendale GK could do was watch senior captain Jordan Swift sheperd the ball into the net. Six minutes later it was freshman danger girl, Anna Delong (pictured above, being marked by Emily Jordan) who turned on a ball just inside the box and blasted it past Glendale’s static defense. 2-2 and the momentum was swinging. The denouement came with a Glendale player’s ejection for dissent as regulation ended and the winning goal minutes later.

In other games, Harrison Arkansas were visiting the Central Bulldogs Wednesday.

And word is in that Rolla downed Waynesville by the score of 4-0 on Tuesday.
