Catholic Down District Rival Ozark

Catholic Fightin' Irish at Ozark Tigers The first of what will likely be three meetings between the Catholic Fightin’ Irish and the Ozark Tigers took place at Ozark’s facility Tuesday afternoon. The result, a 2-1 win for Catholic, offers no answers as to who may come out on top in District 12 this year. The last time these two teams played, in the District Finals last May, the result was 1-0 as Catholic made it to the Quarterfinals in 2005.

The Irish scored first, with leading scorer Tara Bailes, coming up from her midfield position to score off an assist from freshman Anna Delong in the 18th minute. Ozark struck back as the always reliable Caitlin Germeroth tied the score in the 32nd minute. The score remained tied until midway through the second half when a foul in the box on a corner kick led to Catholic receiving an indirect kick from just outside the six yard box. With Jordan Swift providing the initial touch, Tara Bailes was able to lift a hard shot over the onrushing Tiger’s wall of defenders into the top of the net for the game winner.

Both teams had opportunities to change the result but were ultimately frustrated. The next match will be in two weeks, watch the countdown timer on the right.
