From Sunday’s Columbia Daily Tribune:
A COACH IN NEED: Hickman soccer Coach Jon Strodtman’s continuing medical issues took a turn for the worse this week in Houston. Dealing with a rare form of intestinal cancer for the past six years, Strodtman had unsuccessful surgery to relieve pressure in his intestines that had been keeping him from eating.
“It didn’t go well,” said Kay Lindner, a close friend of Strodtman’s and Hickman’s activities secretary. “They opened him up and said, ‘We can’t do anything.’ … He’s out of sick days, and it’s not good.”
Unable to donate their sick days, Lindner and Sue Richardson, who teaches with Strodtman at Jefferson Junior High, have started a collection among their co-workers. Strodtman, who is married with four children, was expected to miss the remainder of the school year recovering from this surgery.
“Hickman and Jeff Junior are raising money … but there’s a lot of former players and people we’re not reaching just through the two schools,” Lindner said.
If you would like to contribute to the Strodtman family fund, donations can be sent to Lindner at Hickman High School, 1104 N. Providence Road, Columbia, MO 65203. Lindner can also be reached at the high school at (573) 214-3007.
