Germantown College Showcase

November 30, 2005 by Ole

It’s a busy soccer weekend if you didn’t know it already. The next groups to hit the road are headed to Memphis, or more specifically Germantown for the Germantown College Showcase. The Springfield Soccer Club is taking a group of Juniors and Seniors that will be competing in the U19 Competive division. Players on the team just completed their high school season competing for the following high schools – Glendale, Kickapoo, Parkview, Joplin, Lebanon, Cassville and Catholic.

I said groups because there will be a strong St. Louis contingent represented as well, including the Lou Fusz U17 squad that now includes Adam Peterson and Alex Palmer (both Kickapoo 2007) that will be competing in the U-17 Gold Division. The Lou Fusz U19 team that was a U17 National Finalist last summer will be competing in the U19 Gold Division.

Why such a large and strong field? Because the college coaches will be out in force now that their seasons have concluded (except for 12 teams). The Missouri schools that will be in attendance include Alf Bilabo of Drury, both Jon Leamy and Eric Sorlie from Missouri State, Vince Darnell up the road at the University of Missouri – Rolla and more.

I asked Coach Alumbaugh about the tournament and here’s what he had to say:

The Germantown Invitational Tournament is one of the top college showcase events during the fall in the midwest. This shows the commitment of the players, parents, and coaches in the Springfield S.C. to continue putting our teams in environments where they will receive maximum exposure to college soccer coaches. All of the players attending have had outstanding high school seasons for their respective programs and hopefully, will show well this weekend.

We play JYSA United from Kentucky Saturday morning followed by Greater Akron Premier from Ohio that afternoon. Depending on how we finish we play either in championship round or consolation round on Sunday. All games are at the beautiful Mike Rose Soccer Complex in Memphis, TN.

Good luck to the boys. I should have some reports during the course of the weekend. Be sure and check back in!excort service
