Germantown College Showcase

It’s a busy soccer weekend if you didn’t know it already. The next groups to hit the road are headed to Memphis, or more specifically Germantown for the Germantown College Showcase. The Springfield Soccer Club is taking a group of Juniors and Seniors that will be competing in the U19 Competive division. Players on the team just completed their high school season competing for the following high schools – Glendale, Kickapoo, Parkview, Joplin, Lebanon, Cassville and Catholic.

Nike Friendlies in FL

I have posted a couple of recent articles that have referenced the Nike Friendlies. It is a high level, invitation only tournament being held at the IMG Academy site in Bradenton, FL. It is where the best US prospects are given an opportunity to immerse themselves in soccer, leaving their families and friends and continuing their high school education while developing as soccer players as well.

Springfield will be well represented this weekend as this list reflects:

Glendale Honors

I don’t want to assume but I’m guessing that the majority, if not all, of the high school programs in the Springfield Soccer region hold post-season banquets or awards ceremonies. It’s not easy keeping up with the challenges the schedule creates during the season but it’s just as difficult to see it come to an end. There is no shortage of things to do now but I miss soccer.

The Glendale Booster Club was kind enough to invite me to their end of season banquet that was held last night and it was great getting a chance to see the boys and to share in the satisfaction of a job well done. There were some internal awards that were passed out last night and I’m going to share them with my readers. I would invite all the Coaches to forward similar awards which I will be happy to post on this site. Kickapoo will be next. I can’t think of better content for December 🙂

Ronaldinho Named Europe’s Best

The Ballon d’Or (Ball of Gold literally I believe) award as European Footballer of the Year was presented to Brazilian Ronaldinho this weekend. The award is based upon a poll of soccer journalist and recognized the performance of the FC Barcelona player as Barca won Spanish League gold this year for the first time since 1999.

A photo gallery at the BBC site also shows previous winners including Cruyff and Platini among others. Boy did that make me feel old.escourt services

Creighton Moves On To Quarterfinal

The Quarterfinal pairings for the NCAA Division 1 Soccer tournament were determined following the 3rd round games that were completed on Sunday. That includes the Missouri Valley Conference representative Creighton Bluejays who defeated Penn State 3-1. This is the third trip to the Quarterfinals in four seasons for the Bluejays.

The quarterfinals will match #1 seed Maryland against #9 Akron with the #4 North Carolina Tarheels hosting unranked Southern Methodist while #2 New Mexico will host #7 Cal and Creighton will travel to Clemson. independent escort in dubai
