The Greenwood Bluejays extended their winning streak to 8-0 this evening, successfully defending their home field against the Class 3 Joplin Eagles. The Eagles opened the scoring in the first half but early in the second half the Bluejays tied the score. The goal came when sophomore Dylan Montileone got to a cross from junior Ross Chaffin, putting the ball into the net from inside the six. The game winner came on a penalty kick by senior Sam Chaffin after Ross collided with the Joplin goalkeeper on a challenge for a bouncing ball inside the box. When I arrived the Bluejays were working hard to keep the Eagles from equalizing and it wasn’t until the final whistle blew, following yet another corner kick for Joplin, that victory was assured. As Coach Chris Shull noted “I had witnessed history”.

I would like to amplify on “history”. This is the biggest win for the Bluejays since I have been a part of Greenwood soccer. It also has been a while since our school has been 8-0. Greenwood has a great tradition of success and it is exciting to see us playing well against strong programs. However, coaches far better than I have ‘’witnessed history” at Greenwood.
Hey Coach, your allowed a bit of hyperbole minutes after winning a game like this one. Congratulations to you and your boys!
I’m not surprised the team is 8-0! Coach Shull’s enthusiasm for this program makes it impossible for the players not to have confidence in themselves and their ability to beat any team. Notice to all players, especially seniors…listen and execute what you’re being taught and you will have continued success! OWN THE BALL & THE FIELD!
Rah-rah shish boom bah! Congratulations to all the Bluejays on an incredible 8 and 0 record!!
Nothing like family I guess.
Way to go Jays!!! Both of our boys have played and coached for Greenwood. We are so proud of the fine tradition and wish this team
much success. We also love this great website. Great job!
