I’m not prone to political or religious conversations since I’d like to think that I’m old enough to know better. But I did chose to share with you some brief comments on the disaster in New Orleans last night. Well this morning Coach Dieter Bock of Waynesville offered some private comments that he has now allowed me to share with you. I asked him if it would be OK to share this story with you because one of my friends is an Asst. Professor in the Theatre Department at Loyola University located on St. Charles Street. With all the hub-bub locally regarding MSU, it made me think about what it would be like to have to relocate them much less an entire city.
It’s interesting that you decided to opine about the hurricane on your webpage. Here’s an added FYI: two of my players from last spring, Vannesa King and Denise Prewitt, are currently playing soccer for NCAA Division I Nicholls State University. The campus is located in Thibodaux, Louisiana, which is 30 miles west of New Orleans. They were evacuated Sunday morning and decided (no other choice) to come home (they were at the Glendale game last night). They mentioned that the coach expects them back for training on Monday, however, a number of local players are literally without a home. This really puts things like the game of soccer in perspective.
Coach Bock is also a Social Studies teacher at Waynesville. This is the type of thing that keeps bringing me back to futbol, some of the best friends I have made in my life are a direct result of my participation in this world community. Thanks Coach and please keep us up-to-date on the ladies.
