The FC Dallas team play their first match in the new Pizza Hut Park this evening. In addition to the new soccer specific stadium (the 3rd in the US) there are 17 regulation soccer fields and plans to keep the facility busy 300 days a year apparently. Events already scheduled include the Annual Dallas Cup tournament, the 2006 Regional Championships and the MLS Championship later this year. Unfortunately the game is only available on DirecTV, ESPN2 is showing the Chivas vs Real match. What a clunker that should be.
For a little perspective, there is also a good article on ESPN Soccernet regarding the changes in the stadiums in England, where they have gone to ‘all-seaters’. Check it out for a bit of history.
