The Springfield Storm came out energized tonight and avenged the road loss the suffered against the Sioux Falls Spitfire in May with a shutout win at home, 2-0. The game winning goal came in the 34th minute from Nick Pollard (MSU) when he rocketed a shot from 30 yards out into the lower right-hand corner of the goal. Updated - Niko Bohnenkamp had taken the ball into the box on a pass from Pollard and dropped a ball back for Jake Harris who’s shot was blocked. The deflection came out to the middle and Pollard slotted a hard, left-footed shot into the bottom right corner of the net, beating the keeper. The Storm solidified their lead in the 77th minute when Jared Appel (WIU) received a long pass from the left side, settled it just inside the box and beat the goalkeeper in a virtual replay of his goal in Friday’s match. The cross came from Jim Levesque (MSU) who was a thorn in the side of the Spitfire all night with his runs down the left side.
I’ve got a short interview with Jared to share with you and I’ll provide highlights and more detail later this evening. Check out KOLR10 sports report tonight as well, they had a videographer on hand to catch the first goal.
